Liam Whaley: Profile

I was born on Ibiza a small Island off the coast of Spain, which is where I first learned to kite.  As Ibiza was not the most ideal place to practice Kiteboarding my Dad and I would go to Cumbuco (Brazil) every year to train. I started to show more interest as I progressed in this sport and at the age of 13 we decided to move to Tarifa (Europe’s wind capital), to take advantage of the amazing conditions for kiting.

Training & Success

From then on I was able to ride every day with the best riders like Gisela Pulido and Alex Pastor. That year I trained very hard and Cabrinha came up with an international sponsorship deal. I was very happy because I knew this would give me the opportunity to become part of one of the biggest kiteboarding brands in the industry and make a name for myself! That year I ended up becoming Spanish and European Junior Champion and from that moment on I knew that I was good enough to compete on the PKRA WORLD TOUR with the most talented people in this sport.

World Tour

In 2012 I did the first 6 stops of the PKRA (Kiteboarding World Tour) and I had a couple of really good results like 7th and 4th place.

By the end of 2013 I was ranked 4th in the world at only 16 years old. At the end of 2014 I was ranked 2nd in the world and now in 2015 I'm currently in 1st position in the rankings.

Now I am currently doing the whole Tour whilst studying online.
